I. General

A. Conferences. There is noon conference 99% of the time July - June.

1. Nuts and Bolts: five times weekly at noon during July and August. Diagnosis and management of common medical problems including topics such as endocarditis, congestive heart failure, pancreatitis, indications for procedures, etc.

2. Medical Management Conferences: noon beginning September follows a 2 year curriculum on Internal Medicine topics.

3. Grand Rounds: weekly at noon on Thursdays.

4. Morbidity and Mortality Conference: weekly Tuesday at noon, September through June.

5. Clinical Pathologic Conference: monthly Wednesday at noon, September through June.

6. Chairman's Rounds: Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday mornings.

7. ECG Conference: 1-2 times a month at noon, October through May.

8. International Health Conference: twice a month, first and third Fridays at noon, September through June.

9. Ambulatory Medicine Conferences: 4-5 mornings per week at 7:30 am. Includes lectures on ambulatory topics, case conference, general medicine journal club and topics of interest presented by residents.

10. Subspecialty Conferences: each subspecialty has at least a weekly conference including journal clubs, tumor board, radiology, pathology and ID case conferences.

11. Senior Resident Talks: each senior gives a 1-hour conference on a topic of choice.

B. Library

1. Extensive collection of medical texts and journals. Interlibrary loan can obtain a book or journal.

2. Xeroxing: 200 pages per month free.

3. Free MEDLINE searches available. On-line CD-ROM computer search available without charge.

4. James R. Carter, Jr. Firm Library, specific to Internal Medicine, located near the Medical Wards.

C. Educational Funds: PGYII - PGYIV residents provided with $500 for conference, travel or books. Four days allowed for conference time. Funds may not be carried from one PGY year to the next.

D. Meal Tickets: $6.00 in meal tickets provided per call night.

II. Ancillary Services

A. IV - placed by nurses.

B. Phlebotomy team daily. Two scheduled draws on weekdays and one morning draw on weekends

C. ECG technicians available daily.

D. Computerized laboratory results with terminals on each floor.

E. Dictated radiology reports available by telephone and through hospital computer terminals.
