Primary Care Internal Medicine Track

As the provision of medical services shifts from the subspecialist toward the generalist, the need for generalists has greatly increased. The role of the General Internist of the future has become increasingly complex; providing primary care and preventive medicine services, managing chronic illnesses, and diagnosing and treating patients with complex multi-system diseases. The general internist needs to be equally comfortable in both the ambulatory and inpatient settings.

The Primary Care Internal Medicine Track and MHMC trains General Internists to succeed in this changing health care environment. Our program focuses on balancing training in both ambulatory and inpatient settings, utilizing both the tertiary care medical center and community practice settings. In addition to the traditional areas of expertise, residents will receive training in Continuous Quality Improvement, evidence-based medicine, and non-Internal Medicine areas, including Psychiatry, Orthopedics, Gynecology, ENT, and Ophthalmology. Throughout the three year program, each trainee will be paired with a General Internist who will serve as both mentor and role model.
