Internal Medicine / Masters of Science Program

Individuals with expertise in both clinical care and clinical research play an increasingly important role in the academic medical center. The purpose of the combined Internal Medicine / Masters of Science program is to prepare individuals for careers in Academic General Internal Medicine. This four-year program combines solid clinical training with course work and research in Health Services Research, Epidemiology or Public Health. At the completion of the program, the physician will be eligible for American Board of Internal Medicine certification and receive the Masters of Science degree from the Case Western Reserve University Institute of Public Health Sciences, located on the MetroHealth campus of the Medical School.

The first year is spent mostly in clinical medicine. The second through fourth years combine course work and clinical rotations within the framework of the semester calendar of the University. Preparation and defense of a Masters thesis is required.
