Changes in the Use of Do-not-resuscitate Orders After Implementation of the Patient Self-Determination Act

After passage of the federal Patient Self-Determination Act in 1991, DNR orders in Cleveland`s hospitals increased modestly for 6 medical conditions. In the May, 2003 issue of the Journal of General Internal Medicine, Center authors also reported increasing mortality among stroke patients with DNR orders between 1991-97, raising quality of care issues needing further study.Journal of General Internal Medicine
